Dr Xavier Droux

Dr Xavier Droux completed his Ph.D at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Oxford. His research focuses on predynastic Egypt and the role and significance that animals held for the Egyptians at the time.

Xavier has excavated many sites in Egypt and Sudan. Since 2003 he has worked at the site of Hierakonpolis, discovering the earliest above-ground funerary architecture in Egypt and a well-preserved royal burial at the predynastic elite cemetery HK6. In 2011 and 2012, he also spent a number of seasons digging out a vast cattle burial known as Tomb 49. Xavier was also part of the team working on the redevelopment of the Egyptian galleries of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, and spent three study seasons at the National Museum, Khartoum, for the reconstruction and conservation of a New Kingdom private stone statuary.
