Prof. Craig Benjamin

Craig Benjamin is a Professor of History in the Frederik Meijer Honors College at Grand Valley State University, where he teaches courses in ancient Central and East Asian history, and on the Silk Roads.

Craig received his PhD from Macquarie University in Sydney, where he studied nomadic confederations of ancient Central Asia and their impact upon the Chinese Han dynasty and Greco-Bactria.

An experienced lecturer, Professor Benjamin is the author of numerous published articles, chapters and books, and is editor of several volumes in the Brepols Silk Roads Studies series. His most recent book (published by Cambridge University Press in 2018) is “Empires of Ancient Eurasia. The First Silk Roads Era 100 BCE-250 CE”. He is also editor of Volume IV of the Cambridge World History (1200 BCE – 900 CE), and co-author of the first ever Big History Textbook for McGraw-Hill: Big History. Between Nothing and Everything (2014). Professor Benjamin is a dynamic lecturer who specializes in placing local and regional events and material cultures into the broader context of inner Eurasian history.
